In Self Magazine’s current issue, cover girl Kelly Osbourne opens up about her own personal struggle with her weight. For the first time I truly felt like I could relate to a celebrity and their trials and tribulations with society’s pressure to be thin. Many of Kelly’s answers in her interview resonated with me and I could relate them to my own battle. Kelly refers to herself as an “F.F.P” (a former fat person), which I completely relate to, and discusses how it is a constant challenge for her to see herself as the person she has become, and not the person she used to be. Personally I’ve found that it’s significantly harder to change your thoughts than it is your physical appearance. This is a huge factor in keeping me from conquering my disorder. I need to learn to feel confident in my own skin and let myself see how I really look. It’s hard, I’m not going to lie, and reading that Kelly Osbourne also struggles with this does make me feel better. I’m not alone and I can get well, it just will take a lot of practice and hard work, but I am committed to my recovery and living a fuller life. I believe that once I am comfortable in my own skin everything else will fall in place. As the great Carrie Bradshaw said:
Once I truly love myself, despite my flaws and hardships, I will be able to persevere and accomplish anything that comes my way!
