*Team Luxxie in action*

Guests were invited to the Luxxie Lab to take in, and most importantly try on, our very first collection. With our garments hot off the press from LA all of our Kickstarter supporters and special guests were finally able to breathe in the true fabulousness of a Luxxie Boston!

photo 1.PNGphoto-24

The line for the dressing room seemed to never end and the excitement of the opportunity to try on every style was palpable. With our leading Luxxie boss lady, Stefanie Mnayarji, on call every guest had the chance to experience a personal fitting with the brains behind this operation and learn why they needed a Luxxie in their closet. By the end of the event we were beyond pleased to see that many of our guests would no longer be “spanxing” themselves, but instead would be draped in silk feeling confident, sexy and comfortable all day long! World domination has officially begun so stay tuned for all that Luxxie Boston has in store because ladies why reshape yourself, when you can reshape the world?

Yesterday we lost a true fashion icon with the passing of Mr. Oscar De La Renta. His memory, however, will forever live on through all of his fabulous creations and he will never be forgotten. In honor of Mr. De La Renta I’ve compiled some of my favorite looks of his, as well as a few quotes, for you all to enjoy! Happy humpday and I hope that these images inspire you.

Really Urban Outfitters?

As many of us know Urban Outfitters is no stranger to controversy. From their appropriation of Native American (specifically ‘Navajo’) arts and crafts to their insensitivity of mental health issues, the retail giant is constantly pushing the limit, but this time they have gone too far, for me. Urban Outfitters recently designed and marketed a graphic t-shirt that reads “Eat Less” as you can see in the image below.

2010-06-03-Screenshot20100603at8.24.13AM

When I first saw this image I could not believe my eyes. How in the world can anyone think that selling a shirt with a pro-anorexia message on it is acceptable? As someone who has struggled with this disease, and who is currently in recovery, I know just how damaging this image and these words can be in ones journey to regaining health and happiness. Fortunately, though I am not alone in my disgust. Sophia Bush, an actress as well as a strong promoter of healthy body images for young girls, has waged war on Urban Outfitters. In her personal blog she calls out the company as she writes,

“You should issue a public apology, and make a hefty donation to a women’s organization that supports those stricken with eating disorders. I am sickened that anyone, on any board, in your gigantic company would have voted ‘yes’ on such a thing, let alone enough of you to manufacture an item with such a hurtful message. It’s like handing a suicidal person a loaded gun. You should know better.”

In an effort to combat the horrific message that this tee holds, and to help fight the normalization of unhealthy body images Sophia Bush is encouraging us all to take a stand against pro-anorexia mentalities. I truly believe that her boycott of Urban Outfitters, as well as her continued support for those who suffer from this disease is inspiring. We need to look to Sophia Bush and others who share her viewpoint as role models and not individuals, like Kate Moss, who coined the awful phrase, “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.” FYI Ms. Moss nothing feels better than being healthy and happy, not hungry and emaciated…that I DO know.

So as I’ve said before, but often must remind myself since it is the nature of the disease, that 0 is in fact not a size, 0 is nothing and when you are striving for that size you are equating your self worth to absolutely nothing. o is unmeasurable so why the heck do so many of us want to get there? It really makes no sense.

Better Late Than Never: A Recap of “Better Than Nothing”

afb75f144a02a724780eeb408f76fc92This past Saturday was one of my favorite nights of the summer. For the past few years all of my girlfriends, our parents, and I have gone to the Corinthian Yacht Club to see Better Than Nothing perform. Better Than Nothing is an AMAZING cover band, which is comprised of some very close family friends, such as my BFF Grace’s dad, Billy. We danced and sang the night away to such songs as Everybody Talks by Neon Trees, The Counting Crow’s Rain King, American Girl by Tom Petty, and many more. Honestly nothing makes me happier than just letting loose and having a good time with my closest friends. We placed ourselves front and center of the band and didn’t stop partying until the club got shut down hahaha. It was just such a great night. I felt carefree and relaxed the whole entire time even though the next morning I had no voice and some very sore legs. It was totally worth it though! I am an ultimate groupie and just love those guys. Here are some pics from over the years that show just how much of a blast we have (excuse the poor quality of some, but we were more concerned about our singing and dancing than our photography skills!)

Hey Dad, This One’s For You <3

051246818ba019227ad7d33b472964ad

In honor of Father’s Day this upcoming Sunday I thought I’d share some of the most treasured pictures I have with my own dad. Just a little background, but you all should know that my dad rocks and has been an amazing support for me. Even though he may never fully understand what I am/was going through that doesn’t matter because he never stopped loving me even when I wasn’t very lovable. So, cheers to you this weekend dad! Love you to the moon, forever and always.

If someone had asked me at the beginning of the year how I would feel upon the day of my graduation I would have answered “relieved, ready, and so over college.” Today, however, just a few days into my life as a post grad I am sad and overwhelmed, but also extraordinarily proud, grateful, and happy. I know that I have said this a million times over, but I just can’t believe that I made it to this point. There were so many times when I wanted to throw in the towel, yet I didn’t, and I must thank all of you who supported me and knew that I could persevere when I, myself, was unsure. All of the countless pep talks, supportive meals, and words of wisdom I received from you all truly helped me to see that I not only had a chance at recovery, but that I could go back to college and thrive in that environment.

This past week was all about celebrating what I thought of as impossible and finally recognizing that I am braver than I believe, stronger than I seem, and smarter than I think. So, here are some photos from this amazing week with the people I will always care about and remember forever.

Graduation Day!

The ceremony was beautiful and filled with ample traditions, which made the day all the more special. Tears, laughter, and joy filled the air and as I marched through campus all I could think about was how proud I am to be a Bowdoin College polar bear. You can even check it out for yourselves in this AMAZING vimeo, which gives you  a sneak peek at the splendor of the ceremony. Although this is the end of the era it is also the start of a new chapter in my life and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store. Stay tuned 😉

Senior Spring Shenanigans :)

59920f5b5aeb1728b1ace77acbb34f14

It’s official: Senior Spring is in full swing and it has already GREALY surpassed my expectations. Granted, because of my unique situation as a “super” senior, I thought I might have a more difficult time embracing this part of the year, but I’m actually loving it. I am fully taking advantage of the little time I have left here, and most importantly, I feel like I am true member of the Class of 2014. It’s so important for me to make the most of the rest of my college experience because I never expected to make it this far and I wouldn’t have without the love and support of all my friends, new and old, here at school. So today I want to share with all of you some of the awesome Senior Spring shenanigans I participated in this weekend, with my amazing friends, and I promise to keep you all posted on the weeks to come!

Saturday I danced the night away and behaved like a “freshman” (it’s up to you all to interrupt this in whatever way you want haha). Honestly the nights’ where it is socially appropriate to be absolutely ridiculous are limited so why not just have the best time ever this spring?

Spring Break in Sunny San Diego

1970386_10202838930951016_1323511246_n

Well, ladies and gentleman it’s official I had the most AMAZING spring break ever in beautiful sunny San Diego. I touched down in the golden state Wednesday morning and from that point on I was one happy camper. After being stuck in the tundra of Maine for the past few months, where we have arguably experienced one of the worse winters ever, I was in desperate need of some warm sunny weather and San Diego did not disappoint. The climate was actually perfect. Temperatures got up into the high 70s during the day, there was no humidity, and the sun shone bright…I couldn’t have asked for anything better. I have always believed that sunshine cures all, as well as boosts your mood. I mean how can you be sad or lazy when the sun is shining all day and the weather is nothing less than perfect, I just wanted to be outside 24/7.

Spending time with my two of my oldest and closet friends, who are now living in Pacific Beach in San Diego, was long over due and thanks to them I got to experience some of the amazing things that San Diego has to offer. Some of the highlights of my trip include:

All in all I couldn’t have asked for a more enjoyable and fulfilling vacation. I spent some quality time with two of my best friends, met some new people, and explored many beautiful beaches/cliffs (I can never get enough of an ocean view)! I also, during my time in San Diego, realized just how far I have come in my recovery and see how strong I am now.

I’ll elaborate more on this tomorrow!

“I’m going going, back back, to Cali Cali”

I am heading out EARLY this morning to visit two of my best friends in Cali and I seriously can not wait to soak up the sun and live it up with them. I haven’t been to the golden state in years, and i’ve never been to So-Cal so I am eagerly anticipating this adventure!

It is going to be so amazebalz to be in warm weather. I truly believe that sunshine cures all and I am definitely long overdue for my fix.

Even though I am

through and through, this escape to the west coast is clutch. I am in desperate need for a trip and who knows maybe something magical will happen!

I’ll be off the radar for the next 5 days, hopefully getting a great tan and sharing laughs and good times with my girls, so I apologize ahead of time for my absence. Hope you all have a lovely week and I’ll be back soon with an update on my trip 🙂

There’s No Place Like Home, There’s No Place Like Home.

I apologize for my recent absence, but I took a little hiatus and ventured home for a long weekend. This trip home could not have come at a better time and left me feeling rejuvenated as well as more centered. I finally feel like my “winter illness” is coming to an end and I am so much more relaxed than I was before. Weekends like this one truly help me to recognize just how lucky I am to have such loving family and friends. While home I got to get my hair done, eat at my favorite restaurants, celebrate Valentine’s Day with some close friends, and take a few of my favorite fitness classes with the lovely Amy Livermore, but the highlight of being back at home was without a doubt the much needed mommy time that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I just love her SO much ❤ She’s honestly the best and most amazing mom anyone could ever ask for. She just makes me so happy 🙂

436957caf50d44267c5fca604f61fa16

Before I left I had to make sure to complete the following tasks with each one of my family members. These are just so necessary. I truly believe that you should never say goodbye to someone you truly care about without telling them that you love them.

This impromptu vacation was lovely and now I can’t wait for Spring Break…3 more weeks to go!
