Yesterday the fashion world lost one of it’s most influential and innovative designers. Lilly Pulitzer, one of my personal fashion icons, sadly passed away at the age of 81. Lilly patterns and designs are so unique because they have the power to instantly bright up your day and can translate through many generations. Florals, pastels, and summer themes (like the signature palm tree) can be found in mass quantities in any of the Lilly signature stores. Whenever I walk into one of these stores an airiness and light feeling encompasses me and my mood instantly improves. To say that I love me some Lilly is an understatement. My phone cover, my comforter, my coffee thermos, my planner, my swimsuits, and many more things I own are Lilly P. I mean I even rocked a head scarf today to show my respects:
Even though Ms. Lilly Pulizter is no longer with us her spirit will never die and her legacy will live on through her company and the designs they hopefully continue to put out. I mean if I have little girls one day, in the far off future, I better be able to dress them up in Lilly head to toe. Nothing would make me happier then to wear matching Lilly hahaha I know I’m a total dweeb, but you can’t deny how adorbs this looks:
Lilly Pulitzer you will be missed, rest in peace.
Last evening my mom and I took our first, of eight, meditation classes. One of my mom’s best friends is leading the class and she is amazing. Nancy is a truly spiritual woman who has extensively studied the power of healing, meditation, and energies. There were many other people in attendance and it would be an understatement to say that it was an eclectic group. Even though there were so many different types of people there everyone was completely open to the power of meditation so the environment, I felt, was filled with positive energy.
In our first session we focused on Metta meditation. The practice of Metta meditation is that of “lovingkindness.” The goal of Metta meditation is to find “a sense of love that is not bound to conditions or desire – overcomes the illusion of separateness from the whole and, therefore, all of the states that accompany separateness: fear, alienation, loneliness, and despair. In its place the metta brings a sense of connectedness with the universe.” In order to invoke feelings of love and kindness towards ourselves we closed our eyes, relaxed our bodies, focused on our breathing, and repeated this script:
“May I be happy.”
“May I be free from danger and harm.”
“May I be healthy.”
“May I be at peace.”
The beauty about the power of meditation is that you can use these words at any point in your day, as long as you are able to clear your mind and focus purely on the meaning of this practice. This phrase, in particular, is very conducive to my recovery. I need to learn not be so self critical and actually appreciate my true self. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and am looking forward to seeing, which form of meditation we will learn about next week! I can’t wait to see how far I can grow and hopefully I will be able to embrace the power of meditation.
I love flowers. Love love love them. I truly believe that fresh flowers brighten up any room and can effortlessly lift up anyone’s spirits. Fresh flowers, when in bloom outside, also fancy up all landscapes. Flowers are just such an amazing gift of nature. However, even though words can’t even begin to describe how much I adore flowers, I have no desire to plant them…I don’t like getting dirty or muddy so gardening is def not for me, even if it’s in my blood…
So last night my mom held a meeting at our house for the ladies in her garden club. It wasn’t about anything too exciting, no floral arrangements or other crafts were being done, they focused more on the business side of the club. Interestingly enough though, The Marblehead Garden Club has had a strong presence in my life for as long as I can remember. In fact three generations of women within my family have been contributing members to the club. My great-grandmother, nana, and mom all were/are memorable MGC members. So even though I am such a huge fan of flowers I don’t think that I will be following in their footsteps…As I mentioned I don’t do dirt, and also worms, well… yuck! I’d much rather just buy, or be gifted hahaha, a fresh bouquet. Here are a few of my fav flowers:
white tulips and blue hydrangeas dress up any table
such an adorable idea to place a picture frame around flowers
even my fav animals know that every lady loves flowers
So today don’t forget to stop and smell the roses!
I am currently OBSESSED with the new season of NBC’s The Voice. Usually I am not a fan of singing competitions, but there is something different and exciting about this show. I love love love the judges and think that it’s awesome how, collectively, all four of them represent their own unique genre of music. Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Usher, and Shakira are all such inspirational and upbeat individuals that there is no way that this show couldn’t be a hit! I think that I am such a fan of this show because it has no intention of embarrassing the contestants, like American Idol does sometimes, the point is for the judges to nurture and coach their singers to become the best they can be. The Voice has a truly positive message and is incredibly entertaining! I can’t wait for tonight’s episode and I hope that the entire season is just as good as the first few episodes.
Today marks the first day, this spring, when it actually seemed like summer, and warm weather, are right around the corner. Hopefully mother nature isn’t playing an April Fool’s joke on us…that would just be cruel. Today it reached nearly 60 degrees so I did what any sun goddess would do, I posted up in my backyard and began working on my tan.
I come from a long line of sunbathers who you will find outside, baking themselves, no matter the temperature, as long as the sun is strong and shining. Here’s my grandmother Hat soaking up some rays, she was notorious for tanning herself in between ski runs in the winter, she was a boss:
Personally I believe that the warmth of the sun has the power to warm your soul and spirit. It can brighten any day and bring a smile to your face. Fingers crossed there are many more sunny days to come!
PS remember to always wear sun block…looking like a lobster is not cute.
